Some further thoughts I couldn't compose in the moment on the podcast about the woman anointing Jesus...
The beauty that she gets it... Of all Jesus's closest people and those most devoted and desperate to be touched by him — she is one who, somehow in some way, understands what is to come for Jesus. This woman understands the suffering and burial that is to come, so "she did what she could" and honored Jesus by preparing him as well as she can.
Maybe that's all she sees and feels, a mourning for the impending death of this man. Maybe she hopes there is more to the story; and she has faith that, by doing her best to honor Jesus, something more comes out of his death. Maybe she has no idea the role this awful event has in the whole story of God's pursuit of redemption for all people...
Maybe Jesus does and that's why this is beautiful.
